Maybe this should have been the first blog, there are indeed a lot of firsts when it comes to leaving your full-time job and setting up your own business.  Especially when Sue and I both have mortgages and family commitments.  You do start to question your own sanity when you come away from the regular pay cheque and safety net of knowing you can actually pay your bills on time!

But the most terrifying “first” of them all was taking the plunge.

We had actually written our business plan months in advance, and truth be told I think we were both relieved once we saw figures on paper, to say we would give it further thought (deep down we were scared stiff!) Could we really do this? Were we good enough? Did we have the mind-set to believe in ourselves?  Well yes and no.

But the idea, once formed was not going away.  Sleepless nights ensued, waking up at 3am on a regular basis following a nightmare about corporation tax and house repossession. My husband thought I had turned into a Walker http://www.thewalkingdead.com/  I haven’t by the way.

However, setting up our own agency was what we both wanted to do, for, like, ever!  Here we were, two normally very confident and extrovert women of the world and yet we were stuck in a rut and quite fearful of the unknown. I mean, really?

The decision, as it turned out was made the day our previous employer rolled out some operational changes meaning our jobs would be based away from the area we loved the most. This was the kick we needed so the best “first” was the decision to leave our old jobs and start our new creation.

We have learnt an awful lot! And it has been exhilarating.

Some great tips have been found from this website https://www.gov.uk/set-up-business and I have to say registering your own company is an actual doddle https://www.gov.uk/topic/company-registration-filing/starting-company The real tribulation starts when you go live which I will include in a further blog.

My mum recently told me that she thinks I have nerves of steel.  Now that is a first!
